Varicose veins & leg symptoms

Could your symptoms be related to your veins?

Leg pain can have many causes. When pain occurs together with swelling, heaviness, visible veins, or symptoms that worsen later in the day, a vein evaluation may be worth discussing with a qualified healthcare professional.

01

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted superficial veins that commonly appear in the legs. Visible veins are only one possible sign of a vein problem. Some people notice aching, swelling, heaviness, itching, burning, or cramping even when the visible veins do not look severe.

02

Does leg pain always mean a vein problem?

No. Leg pain can also come from arterial circulation problems, joints, muscles, nerves, the spine, and other conditions. Symptoms alone cannot diagnose vein disease.

03

When should I consider a vein evaluation?

If you have persistent leg pain, swelling, heaviness, visible varicose veins, skin changes, or symptoms that interfere with walking, sleep, or daily activities, it may be reasonable to discuss your symptoms with a healthcare professional. A diagnostic venous ultrasound may be recommended when clinically appropriate.
